It’s not creepy at all. (sarcasm)

WhatsApp will now let you track your friend’s location.

It’s called Live Location.

They announced today that the app is getting a feature called Live Location.

It will be available starting today on both iOS and Android versions of WhatsApp.

Live to share. Live to be tracked.

The feature allows you to share your location in real time with your friends as well as track the location of your friends as well.

It’s as simple as that.

How to use Live Location in WhatsApp: 4 Steps

Step 1:  Go ahead and open a chat with one of your friends or your group.

Step 2:  Done? Sweet. Now do you see the + button that is to your bottom left hand corner? (it’s the one that you normally press to attach something). Alright tap on +.

Step 3:  Now under Location, you should see Share Live Location. Tap on Share Live Location.

Step 4:  What you can do now is you can set a timer for how long you want to share your location. Once you have done that your location will be shared in real time and will be seen by each of your friends that you have chosen to share it with.

This feature also works if you have a lot of your friends sharing their locations simultaneously.

You will be able to see each of their icons on your map. 🙂

Your Facebook has it. Your Snapchat has it. So why not your WhatsApp too?

It’s not the first to begin with.

Way back in March, Facebook (the parent company of WhatsApp) officially had rolled out its very own temporary location sharing feature for its Messenger.

Something that you might know is that, this feature is in fact was a result of many years of experiments in Facebook’s side (one that also includes experimenting with the location sharing feature they rolled out for the Messenger).

Snapchat have their very own location sharing feature as well called the Snap Map.

An End-to-End Encrypted Promise.

WhatsApp promises that, like all of its other messaging functions that you might find you saw every day, location sharing will be end-to-end encrypted.

The timer feature, especially, that they have added to the location sharing is to serve as for security measures.

You can choose to stop sharing your location, or let the timer run out on its own.

With over 1.3 Billion monthly active users using the app, that is one big promise to keep.
