No matter whether you’re on your first date with that girl you always wanted to ask out or whether you’re receiving your Oscar award and when you wanna take a selfie with your co-stars …

One thing is hella for sure.

Your iPhone’s battery is somehow going to barge in the middle of your ecstatic moment and just ruin your thing.

But not anymore. (well at least not having you run like a maniac across the room looking for a power outlet.)

This guide will show you how you can improve battery life on your new iPhone X.

So that you won’t have to worry about your iPhone X dying out on you next time before you even take it out of your pocket.

Myth Busting.

But first things first let’s dispel the biggest bullshit:

When we quit apps on our iPhone it does not improve or at least hold off your battery from draining away.

Don’t believe it?

Well, Apple’s own Senior VP of Software Engineering, Craig Federighi, has confirmed that closing apps does not do anything for battery life.

When Tim Cook (CEO of Apple) was asked in an email:

“Do you quit your multitasking apps  frequently and is this necessary for battery life? Just wanting you to put this controversy to rest!”.

Federighi stepped in to reply:

“I know you asked Tim, but I’ll at least offer my input: No and No.”

Now with that out of the way here are a few ways that can improve battery life on iPhone X.

How to Improve Battery Life on iPhone X:  39 Ways

You don’t need to follow all of these ways. Like honestly what fun that would be if all of your features on your iPhone X is turned off right?

Let’s start off with the essentials:

1.  Mama Apple says Update your iOS. (Then you should too)

Each of Apple’s software updates brings some of the most up-to-date energy-saving tweaks for your iPhone.

So if there is an iOS update available for your iPhone X, do update it when you can. 🙂

All you have to do is just:

Step 1:  Head over to your Settings app and then General.

improve battery life on iPhone X

Step 2:  Tap on Software Update and if you see an update, just tap on Install Now.

improve battery life on iPhone X

Done.

2.  Not too hot. Not to cold.

If you decided that you wanna go snow sledding with a few penguins at the South Pole, or if had enough with life and suddenly decided to pull up your deck chair and relax in the middle of the Sahara desert ..

Then it’s best that you know your iPhone’s not going to like it.

Now some places, places where you could be at right now, might be bone-chilling cold or  scorching hot.

That has a drastic effect on your iPhone’s battery and it can even cause permanent damage.

Especially if you’re in a really hot place, and you go about charging your iPhone, because that’s a perfect recipe for disaster.

Here’s the comfort zone for your iPhone X.

improve battery life on iPhone X

3.  Which also means getting rid of those covers which are too hot.

When you put on your cover on your iPhone X there’s always the possibility that it can cause your iPhone to overheat. (Especially if you have one of those thick covers).

So the next time you feel that your iPhone feels a little tad hot, remove your cover and leave it to charge. 🙂

4.  FYI. You don’t need such a bright screen.

There is always a sacrifice to be made.

Face it.

When you have this gorgeous OLED display in front of you, and for you to really get yourself immersed into all that, you’re going to need to sacrifice your iPhone’s battery life.

So if you’re at any time not using your iPhone X’s beautiful OLED display to its fullest, take it down a notch and reduce the brightness of your iPhone’s screen.

Here’s two ways you can go about it:

Using your Control Center

Step 1:  Go ahead and open your Control Center by swiping on your screen.

Step 2:  See the little sun shaped icon? Tap that and reduce it until you’re comfortable with a lower brightness setting.

improve battery life on iPhone X

That’s it. 🙂

Using your Settings app

Step 1:  Jump into your Settings app and then tap on Display and Brightness.

improve battery life on iPhone X

Step 2:  Now under Brightness, see that slider? Alright. You can adjust your brightness to a level which you’re comfortable with and then set it.

improve battery life on iPhone X

Note

If you find that the brightness changes on its own, then make sure to turn off your Auto Brightness, it’s just under your brightness slider in your Settings app.

5.  When life brings you down, Go Low Power Mode.

It’s true.

There is a reason why you’re asked if you want to go Low Power Mode every time your iPhone is low on charge.

It’s because every time you turn it on, what it does is apps like your Mail won’t download content in the background and features like your AirDrop, iCloud sync and such will be disabled.

Of course you can still make and receive your calls, email and even accessing the Internet.

Here’s how you enable Low Power Mode:

Step 1:  Head over to your Settings app and then tap on Battery.

improve battery life on iPhone X

Step 2:  Do you see Low Power Mode? All you have to do is just turn it on.

improve battery life on iPhone X

Done.

Now that you have the essentials, I’ll show you the rest and these ones are also definitely worth looking into.

6.  Disable True Tone Display

On your iPhone X, there is this new feature called the True Tone Display and it’s pretty simple to understand:

Your iPhone (which has a shit-ton of sensors on it) is able to sense and measure how much light, color, brightness there is in your surroundings.

With all that your iPhone will then adjust to give you the most accurate or “True Tone” on your iPhone’s display.

But that’s the problem.

Because the more you ask of your iPhone to do something like analyzing your surroundings and then showing you “True Tone”, all of this takes a huge toll on your iPhone’s battery life.

So if you prefer your iPhone’s battery life over how your display looks, then here’s two ways on how you can turn off True Tone on your iPhone X:

Your Control Center

Step 1:  Go ahead and swipe up on your screen to bring up your Control Center.

Step 2:  Now all you have to do is just tap on that little sun-shaped icon (your brightness setting) and then tap on True Tone which is on your bottom right hand side to turn it off.

Your Settings

Step 1:  Head over to your Settings app and then tap on Display and Brightness.

Step 2:  Done? Great! Now all you have to do is just turn off True Tone.

improve battery life on iPhone X

Annnd you’re done! 🙂

7.  Shoot in a Lower Video Quality.

It’s about time.

Well, quiet some time actually since it has taken for Apple to add 4K 60fps Mode onto their iPhones.

Right?

But after all these years of taking videos, you and I both know very well that the higher the quality (or the frame rate) the video is, the more battery you are going to need to give up.

Though, let’s make one thing clear.

You don’t have to straight jump onto the lowest quality there is for all of your videos just so you can save your battery life.

Apple has added a ton of suitable options for you to choose from:

  • 720p HD at 30fps (lowest)
  • 1080p HD at 30fps
  • 1080p HD at 60fps
  • 4K at 24 fps
  • 4K at 30 fps
  • 4K at 60 fps (highest)

I’ll show you how you can change your video quality:

Step 1:  Jump into your Settings app and then tap Camera.

Step 2:  Do you see Record Video? Alright. Tap on Record Video.

improve battery life on iPhone X

Step 3:  Now all you have to do is choose the quality.

improve battery life on iPhone X

Done!

The quality that you choose is entirely up to you, because only you solely understand what quality of your videos should be.

But again, you don’t need to jump all the way to 720p just to save your battery life rather I would suggest you can try going for 1080 HD at 30 fps when you want to save your battery life on whilst you take videos on your iPhone X.

This way you will still save your battery and your videos will still look beautiful as ever.

But if you must shoot in 4K, then try to go for 24 fps since it’s the standard for most movies and most of the newer TV shows in Hollywood these days.

If there’s at least one takeaway you should get from this then:

It’s all about the frame rates.

8.  Check your Battery Usage

When we want to find out what causes a problem (in this case your quick death of your battery life) then the only way both you and I can solve it is by going to the root of the problem.

And on iPhones you can check what’s affecting your battery usage.

Here’s how:

Step 1:  Head over to your Settings app and then tap on Battery.

Step 2:  Done? Sweet! Over here you can check which of your all your apps takes up most of your battery life over the last 24 hours (as well as the past seven days).

improve battery life on iPhone X

Done.

You can also tap on that little clock icon which is to your top right hand corner to show you how much time each of your apps have been used on the screen, as well as how much time the app has spent working in your iPhone’s background.

improve battery life on iPhone X

Which is why you should …

9.  Update your apps!

Just like how it is important to keep your iOS updated to the latest updates, your apps need to be updated too.

Otherwise your newly updated iOS can’t help you protect and keep your iPhone optimized if your apps are not updated and are still on an older version.

And go ahead ask any of your friends and they’l always tell you that:

A good app always updates often.

To find out exactly which of all your apps need’s some love:

Step 1:  Jump into your App Store app and then tap on your Updates tab which is to your bottom far right hand corner.

Step 2:  Over here all you have to do is just tap Update for the apps that needs updating.

improve battery life on iPhone X

That’s it! 🙂

But if you find that doesn’t do the trick then …

10.  Disable Background App Refresh.

This is how it works.

Background App Refresh simply refreshes all of your apps to continue to work in your background whilst you focus on your other tasks.

This is useful, but to an extent.

In the matters of battery life consumption it’s not really a music to the years since it drains your battery everytime each one of your apps needs background refreshing to keep it going.

I’ll show how you can turn it off:

Step 1:  Head over to your Settings app, and then General.

Step 2:  Next scroll down a little. Do you see Background App Refresh? Alright tap on it.

improve battery life on iPhone X

Step 3:  Great! Now All you have to do is just turn it off.

improve battery life on iPhone X

Done.

11.  Disable Your Cellular Data

Now this is a little something that you have already known even before you read the title of this article.

When you use your cellular data it uses up more of your battery life than when you’re connected to your Wi-Fi.

I’ll show you two ways you can turn off your cellular data when you have Wi-Fi around:

Your Control Center

Step 1:  Go ahead and swipe up on your screen to bring up your Control Center.

Step 2:  Now do you see the signal-like icon right next to your Airplane Mode button above your Bluetooth? Alright. All you have to do is just tap it to turn off your Cellular Data.

Done.

Your Settings

Step 1:  Jump into your Settings app and then tap on Mobile Data.

Step 2:  Over here all you have to do is just turn off Mobile Data.

Done.

12.  Not using your iPhone? Disable your Wi-Fi, Bluetooth  & AirDrop.

Why do you need it when you’re not even using it?

All three of these features does have an effect on your battery life of your iPhone so it’s best if you’re not actually using it, that you turn it off to save up your battery life.

Here’s how you can turn off your Wi-Fi, your Bluetooth and your AirDrop.

Your Wi-Fi and Your Bluetooth

Step 1:  Go into your Settings app and then tap on either your Bluetooth or your Wi-Fi.

improve battery life on iPhone X

Step 2:  From there all you have to do is turn it off.

Done.

Your AirDrop

Step 1:  Just swipe up on your screen to bring up your Control Center and then long press or 3D Touch on the connectivity pane. Tap on AirDrop.

improve battery life on iPhone X

Step 2:  Done? Great! Now you’ll see a list of three options. All you have to to do is just tap on Receiving Off.

improve battery life on iPhone X

Done.

13.  Better yet, just go AirPlane Mode. (This has saved countless lives out there)

I have relied on this on so many occasions that when you come to think of it, it has been the one stop solution to just about anything on an iPhone.

Whether you’re iPhone is stuck on something, or having cellular/Wi-Fi connection problems, or if you’re on low battery.

AirPlane Mode always manages to fly in and save the day.

In this such case, when you’re low on battery life on your iPhone, turning on AirPlane mode is literally your red nuclear button to turn off all of the biggest battery draining tasks on your iPhone:

It will stop all data gathering, make or receive calls, GPS and locations services for your apps.

Simply put, it stops all use of your iPhone’s antenna (until which you turn it back on, of course).

Which is why if you go and ask any of your friends for advice on this that they’ll probably say going AirPlane Mode it’s considered one of the biggest battery life tools you have in your arsenal.

Alright.

Here are two ways you can turn on your AirPlane Mode:

Your Control Center

Step 1:  Go ahead and swipe up from the bottom of your iPhone screen to bring up your Control Center.

Step 2:  Got it? Great! Now all you have to do is just tap on that little airplane icon to turn on your AirPlane Mode.

improve battery life on iPhone X

Done.

Your Settings

Step 1:  Jump into your Settings app and at the very top you should see your Airplane Mode setting.

improve battery life on iPhone X

Step 2:  All you have to do is just to turn it on.

improve battery life on iPhone X

Note

If you really need to use the Internet, then you can still connect to your Wi-Fi whilst you’re still on your AirPlane Mode.

This way you can save your battery life and you still be connected to the internet.

14.  No Flashlights Please.

Whether you’re trapped in a distant land like the Lost City of El Dorado or if you’re just enjoying a BBQ session in the cold barren lands of Winterfell (GOT reference) one thing one thing is for certain:

Your flashlight is the most important thing you have with you and saving it’s battery is at the top of your priority list.

And in this day to day age, your iPhone is your flashlight and in most cases your iPhone serves a greater purpose than a single flashlight can ever do. (Can a flashlight save a cat from a tree? no of course it can’t)

So your iPhone’s battery life is important, and you gotta be smart with how you use your Flashlight because it does use up a lot of your battery life of since it relies on your iPhone to power it up.

But here’s the the cool thing with iOS 11 (the iOS version which you have on your iPhone X right now):

You can actually set the flashlight’s power to a low, so in cases if you really need to use your flashlight you can still save up on your battery life and use your flashlight at the same time.

Here’s how you can turn off your flashlight, or adjust it to a level you want to use:

Step 1:  Go ahead and swipe up from the bottom of your iPhone screen to bring up your Control Center.

Step 2:  Over here do you see the flashlight icon? Great tap on it.

improve battery life on iPhone X

Step 3:  There are 4 different brightness levels for your iPhone’s flashlight that you can choose from. Play around with it until you find which is best for your current conditions.

improve battery life on iPhone X

Again just remember when you’re low on battery life you can turn off your flashlight or go for a lower brightness level for your flashlight. 🙂

That’s it! 🙂

15.  Lock yourself out.

Put that box away, and no you’re not locking yourself in that box.

Though what you are going to lock yourself from is… wait for it..

Your iPhone.

Yeah I can tell the 21st Century addiction is kickin in right now.

Now you’re not going to go completely cold turkey with your iPhone, but instead you’re gonna enable your Auto-Lock feature.

Do you ever wonder why whenever your iPhone is on Low Power Mode that your iPhone auto-locks itself?

Whether that be Your MacBook, your Desktops, your iPads, or even your Apple Watch.

This is because, we;; aside from the matters of your security that a auto-locked iPhone provides, the one other most often ignored reason why Auto-Lock is there is also to keep your iPhone’s screen from staying turned on the entire time.

Since the longer your iPhone’s screen stays turned on, the more it’s gonna eat away on its battery life.

Here’s how you can turn on on your Auto-lock on your iPhone:

Step 1:  Head over to your Settings app and then scroll down a little until you see Display & Brightness. Tap on that.

improve battery life on iPhone X

Step 2:  Now you should see your Auto-Lock setting  here. All you have to do is just tap on Auto-Lock and then set your preferred time for your iPhone to auto-lock itself.

16.  Jeez, turn Down the Volume fam.

This is quiet surprising indeed.

Though if you’re been through the Walkman years then you might have already known this:

When you play music or video at a louder volume, your device is going to require significantly more battery power to play it.

But for the purpose of this article I am not going to go deep into all the technical areas on how this plays out.

Though here are some great articles that explain it as simple as possible: 🙂

What you need to is when you choose loud volume it does push your iPhone to its limits to play it to that volume that you want to listen to. (and when your  iPhone’s pushed to its limits, more of its battery life will be used up).

Now to turn down your volume it’s easy: just press on you volume buttons which is on your left hand side of your iPhone X.

And you’re done.

But with that there’s also another setting that you should also look to turn off: Your Music EQ (Equaliser).

Step 1:  Jump into your Settings app and then tap on Music. (If you don’t see it then you don’t have to worry about this).

Step 2:  Once you’re in, scroll down a little until you see EQ. Now all you have to do is just tap on EQ and turn it off.

improve battery life on iPhone X

Done.

17.  Look. No Vibrations either.

This one’s ol school.

No matter what the device is, if it vibrates, then it’s bound to lose its battery life.

And not to mention it gets crazy when you have an army of incoming iMessages and your iPhone starts vibrating out of nowhere.

Here’s how to stop your iPhone’s vibrating:

Step 1:  Jump into your Settings app and then tap on Sounds.

Step 2:  Now you should see the moment you’re in at the very top under Vibrate, two options Vibrate on Ring and Vibrate on Silent. Just turn both of these off and it’ll save you a good amount of your iPhone’s battery life.

18. Turn On your Wi-Fi Assist. It Helps. (srsly)

When you turn on your Wi-Fi Assist on your iPhone, your Wi-Fi Assist will help you get automatically connected to your cellular data when your Wi-Fi connection is weak.

Now I know I said that using your cellular data takes up more of your battery life than when you’re connected to Wi-Fi, but in this case you’re talking about if and when you’re connected to a poor Wi-Fi connection.

Because when you have a poor Wi-Fi connection, turning Wi-Fi Assist will help you save your battery life from you having to attempt to connect poorer signals which are nearby.

Which is why, this was one of the many reasons Apple even implemented this setting in your iPhone.

Here’s how you can turn Wi-Fi Assist on:

Step 1:  Head over to your Settings app and then tap on your Mobile Data.

Step 2:  Great. Now scroll down way until near the bottom of the page and you should see Wi-Fi Assist there. All you have to do is just keep it turned on.

Done.

19.  You don’t need her. (Siri)

There’s two ways you can go about this:

One. If you’re one of those lucky few who seem to have fallen in love with your voice Assistant then you don’t need to get rid of Siri entirely from your iPhone but instead you can turn off the Hey Siri setting.

Two. If you’re like the rest of us, and only use Siri when we want to feel a taste of the fast, crazy futuristic world that we live in, then you can turn off Siri altogether.

Siri does take up a pretty big slice of your battery life, when and when not in use.

Here’s how you can turn off the Hey Siri setting on your iPhone:

Step 1:  Head over to your Settings app and then scroll down a little until you see Siri & Search.

improve battery life on iPhone X

Step 2:  Tap on Siri and then over here all you have to do is just turn off the Listen “Hey Siri” feature.

And you’re done!

Here’s how you can turn off Siri altogether from your iPhone:

Step 1:  Head over to your Settings app and then tap on Siri & Search

improve battery life on iPhone X

Step 2:  Over here all you have to do is just turn off both Listen “Hey Siri” feature and Press for Siri (remember you must turn these both off first). Now once you have turned both of those you’ll be asked if you want to turn off Siri.  Just tap on Turn Off Siri.

improve battery life on iPhone X

improve battery life on iPhone X

Done.

But even if you tried all that with Siri there’s still one thing you’ll forget to do …

20.  You don’t need her suggestions either.

Let’s say you tried to turn off Siri altogether from your iPhone..

Siri will still somehow adamantly remain and will show you app suggestions when you try to search for an app on your iPhone using Spotlight search (it’s the one where you swipe down on your iPhone’s screen and you can search for any app).

You got to hand it to Siri, Siri does it pretty well but at the cost of your battery life.

Here’s how to turn this Siri App Suggestions feature off:

Step 1:  Jump into your Settings app and then tap on Siri & Search.

improve battery life on iPhone X

Step 2:  Now just scroll down until you see Siri Suggestions. Found it? Great! All you have to do is just turn off Suggestions in Search and Suggestions in Look Up.

improve battery life on iPhone X

And you’re done! 🙂

21.  Turn Off Those Widgets

Widgets are fun.

These little features help both you and I view all the app information (such as your Weather, Maps, Calendar apps) that we would want without even having to open up our iPhones.

But when we have these little features with a swipe from the left, they do consume your battery life since it runs behind your iPhone and receives and gathers info from all those apps.

Here’s how you can turn off Widgets on your iPhone X:

Step 1:  Go ahead and swipe from the left to your right on your iPhone’s screen to bring up your widgets page.

Step 2:  Scroll down to the bottom until you see Edit. Tap on Edit.

improve battery life on iPhone X

Step 3:  Over here, all you have to do is just tap on that little red delete button next to each of the widgets to delete them.

Note

If you made a mistake and you want to undo it, then scroll down to the bottom and you see the list of widgets that’s available for you too choose from. Over here choose the widget that you want to undo by tapping on the little green plus icon.

You’re done! 🙂

22.  Disable Auto-playing Videos for your Apps

You’re kinda hitting two birds with one stone here.

Auto-playing videos on apps like your Facebook or your Twitter not only do they consume your cellular data but also your iPhone’s battery life.

And let’s be honest here..

No one wants to be blown off from their screens the moment they start scrolling through their news feeds.

And also it’s not like you watch every single video there is right?

Right.

Here’s how you can disable auto playing videos for your apps:

Your Facebook app

Step 1:  Jump into your Menu tab and then tap on your Settings.

Step 2:  Then tap on Account Settings and then Videos and Photos.

Step 3:  Do you see Autoplay? Alright. All you have to do is just tap on Autoplay and then select Never Autoplay Videos.

improve battery life on iPhone X

Your Twitter app

Step 1:  Go ahead and tap on your profile icon and then tap on Settings & Privacy.

Step 2:  Done? Great! Now tap on Data usage and then Video Autoplay.

Step 3:  All you have to do is just select Never and you’ll save your iPhone’s battery life whilst you use your Twitter.

Done.

23.  Motion-less

Sometimes the very smallest things have the greatest impact.

The same is true of the little features you have in your iOS.

One of these is the unique motion features that makes your iPhone experience feel fluid and seamless with the use of precise app-launching animations and special parallax effects on your iPhone’s home screen.

But the disgusting truth is all of this does take up a signification portion of your iPhone’s battery life.

Here’s how you can deactivate these motion features on your iPhone:

Step 1:  Jump into your Settings app and then tap on General.

Step 2:  Next tap on Accessibility and then Reduce Motion.

Step 3:  Great job! Now all you have to do is just enable it.

improve battery life on iPhone X

Done.

24.  Nobody needs to know where you are. (Turn Off Location Services)

Okay I get it.

How the heck is my Uber driver going to know where I am if I turn off my Location Services on my phone?

You’re right there fam,  but here’s the thing:

Both you and I know that Location Services is great, but it is not so “great” when it comes to matters of how it affects your iPhone’s battery life.

Go ahead and check out any phone reviews by  Tech Youtubers out there and you’ll find that they’ll always test out a phone’s battery life to its limits by having Location Services turned on.

The reason why they do this is to really get the best estimate of how long your phone can go from 100% without a charge throughout the day whilst having heavy battery draining settings such as your Location Services turned on.

Now dont get me wrong you don’t have to turn off your Location Services entirely (it’s good if you can) but for some of your more important apps they can’t function without Location Services.

I’ll show you how: 🙂

Step 1:  Jump into your Settings app and then tap on Privacy.

Step 2:  Do you see Location Services? Great! Just tap on Location Services.

Step 3:  Now you have two options: if you want to disable your Location Services entirely then all you have to do is just turn off Location Services (but again this could prove pointless if you often use location-based apps like your Uber, Google Maps, Waze, etc.).

improve battery life on iPhone X

Then there’s another way.

If you scroll down you will find a list of all your apps which use and don’t use your Location Services on your iPhone.

What you can do here is you can go one by one to the apps that you don’t really want it using your Location Services such as your Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, etc. tap on it and then just set it to Never.

This way you can remove all the numerous apps you have in your iPhone that just use up your Location Services for no reason. 🙂

25.  Disable Auto-Brightness

The Auto-Brightness on your iPhone has a mind of its own..

Where it which gets wrong most of the time anyways.

Truth is, you can’t quiet make of it to be right amount of brightness that you want. (unless if you turn it off of course)

It’s either too bright, or too dark.

And as a result of that you’re battery life will suffer for that incongruences as well.

So  here’s how to turn Off your Auto-Brightness feature on your iPhone:

Step 1:  Jump into your Settings app and then tap on General.

Step 2:  Next tap on Accessibility and then Display Accommodations.

Step 3:  Now all that you have to do is just turn off Auto-Brightness.

Annnd you’re done!

26.  Disable ‘Raise to Wake’.

Go ahead and leave your phone off (not turned entirely off but locked like how you normally leave it once you’re done using it) and place it anywhere you like.

Now pick it up.

Tell me. What do you see?

Your iPhone automatically knows when you pick it up doesn’t it?

Admit it. That’s pretty amazing.

But as amazing that is to be, for your iPhone to do that (oh and btw if you’re on an iPhone that is older than the iPhone 6S then this won’t work), it does require a small portion of your battery juice.

So if you prefer saving your battery life at all costs then this is one effective way you can you indeed improve your iPhone X’s battery life.

Here’s how you can turn it off:

Step 1:  Head over to your Settings app and then tap on your Display and Brightness.

Step 2:  Finally all you have to do is just turn off Raise to Wake.

Annnd you’re done!

27.  Save your life by turning off Notifications (for certain apps)

App notifications are a nuisance.

Isn’t that the whole reason why we had our WhatsApp groups muted for 1 whole year? (lol)

And cmon you know it’s not just your WhatsApp.

Whether that’d be your Facebook, your Twitter, or your Instagram app, if it is an app then it will have notifications.

But here’s the downside to all this:

Everytime your phone shows you your notifications it forces the battery life to keep the look out for any more upcoming notifications.

And this cycle goes on and on unless and until the app is closed from running in the background.

So the best way you can go at this is to go to the certain apps that you don’t really need it’s notifications for and then disable them.

This way for more of your important apps like your Slack, Uber or WhatsApp, you can still leave it to show notifications but your other less-important apps and games won’t show it (and won’t waste away your battery life like that). 🙂

Here’s how you can disable app notification for one app at a time.

Step 1:  Choose the app that you want to stop showing notifications and then jump in to your Settings app.

Step 2:  Once you’re in your settings, tap Notifications to browse all of your apps. You’ll be able to see all the apps that have notifications enabled here.

Step 3:  Found your app? Great! Now all you have to do is just tap on it and then turn it off to disable its notifications.

Done.

28.  Disable Some of Your iCloud Preferences.

If you have only one iOS device then you do not need to use iCloud for certain apps.

By deselecting these applications and settings from your phone you will save your battery since your phone will not then be trying to upload all your data to the cloud through your the entire day.

I’ll show you how you can disable these iCloud preferences. 🙂

Step 1:  Jump into your Settings app and tap on on your name (your Apple profile).

Step 2:  Done? Great! Next tap on iCloud.

improve battery life on iPhone X

Step 3:  Now all you have to do is just turn off any of the applications and settings that does not apply to you.

improve battery life on iPhone X

Oh and just so you know..

All of your info will not get deleted. (if you were ever feeling a little anxious of meddling with your iCloud).

Instead it will stop uploading all these data into your cloud 24/7 (which is a huge consumption of your phone’s battery life).

If you are already backing up your iPhone every now and then with your iTunes, then you’re good to go.

29.  Fetch Data Less Frequently.

Remember this.

The more your iphone has to ‘fetch’ for email data, the more battery it uses.

Simple.

So to improve your iPhone’s battery life, then there’s only way about it: (Without of course dismantling your entire mailbox)

Fetch data less frequently.

Here’s how you can do that. 🙂

Step 1:  Head over to your Settings app and then tap on Accounts & Passwords.

Step 2:  Next tap on Fetch New Data.

improve battery life on iPhone X

Step 3:  Now all you have to do is just choose how often you’d like your phone to fetch for Data.

improve battery life on iPhone X

Just keep in mind the rule:

The less frequently your iPhone has to fetch, the better your battery life will be.

30.  :whispers: Apple does not need to know.

Apple loves to get a hold of your precious iPhone’s data.

And if you’re especially still in iOS 11 Beta version then chances are all of this data gathering does use up a lot of your battery.

Here’s how you can disable the feature and not send any of your iPhone’s data:

Step 1:  Jump into your Settings app and then tap on Privacy.

Step 2:  Next tap on Analytics.

improve battery life on iPhone X

Step 3:  Now do you see Share iPhone Analytics? (if you also have an Apple Watch then it’ll show up as Share iPhone & Watch Analytics like it did for me). Great! All you have to do is just turn it off.

improve battery life on iPhone X

Done.

31.  Disable all those suggested apps that are on your lock screen and app switcher.

Have you ever noticed this tiny little icon at the bottom of your lock screen?

Or in your app switcher?

Then chances are you have this feature turned on.

Now what this feature does is, is your iPhone will first track your location and then based on your location it will “suggest” to you apps that it feels would be useful for you to use.

But face it.

Both you and I, we don’t need suggestions from our iPhone to tell us what we need and what we don’t.

And in most cases we already have all the apps that we need installed on our iPhones.

So save your battery by disabling this feature:

Step 1:  Head over to your Settings app and then tap on Privacy.

Step 2:  Next tap on Location Services and then System Services.

Step 3:  Now all you have to do is just turn off Location-Based Suggestions and you’re good to go! 🙂

improve battery life on iPhone X

Done.

32.  Enable Limit Ad Tracking.

That’s right.

This is one feature that you actually want to be turned on.

I’ll explain why it’s so important.

You see when you activate Limit Ad Tracking feature, your iPhone will then limit how much it is being tracked and analysed for location based advertising. (It’s the kind of advertising like if you make a trip to your nearest Baskin Robbins then for example the App Store will probably suggest to you Baskin Robbins’ official app or probably an app that lets you craft your own ice cream toppings)

Here’s how you can enable Limit Ad Tracking on your iPhone X:

Step 1:  Jump into your Settings app and then tap on Privacy.

Step 2:  Next tap on Advertising.

improve battery life on iPhone X

Step 3:  Now all you have to do is just enable Limit Ad Tracking.

Annnd you’re done!

33.  Have a break! (Disable Fitness Tracking)

Although it’s always good to keep track of your fitness and health …

But when your iPhone does this for you throughout the entire day, it becomes a question of whether is it really worth it?

You’ve got to imagine that your iPhone is helplessly running on a never ending treadmill which burns all of its battery life out.

Whilst you go through your usual day checking your apps, multitasking, Netflix-ing and so on.

Here’s how to disable Fitness Tracking on your iPhone:

Step 1:  Jump into your Settings app and then tap on Privacy.

Step 2:  Next tap on Motion & Fitness.

improve battery life on iPhone X

Step 3:  Now all you have to do is just turn off Fitness Tracking.

Annnd you’re done! 🙂

34.  Disable Handoff

This is a yet another feature that relies on your iCloud and I’ll explain in a few seconds but first …

HandOff is literally when you have your “hands off” from one device to having your “hands on” on another one of your Apple devices.

Get it?

Great.

This is perfect in the sense if you’re working on something on let’s say you’re iPhone whilst you’re on the go.

Now when you get back home you can continue from where you left off in your work straight from your iPad, MacBook or your iMac using this powerful little feature.

But this feature cannot exist without your iCloud to bring your workflow seamlessly across all your devices, hence it does require a significant amount of your devices’ battery life to keep uploading your documents and information onto the cloud and to remain constantly updated for any changes made.

So if you don’t use this, then you can save some part of your iPhone’s battery life by turning this feature off.

I’ll show you how to turn off this HandOff feature on your iPhone X.

Step 1:  Head over to your Settings app and then tap on General.

Step 2:  Next tap on HandOff.

improve battery life on iPhone X

Step 3:  Now all you have to do is just turn it off.

improve battery life on iPhone X

Done.

But now that reminds me …

35.  Fixing up your App Store Settings

This works pretty much the same way as the one before but instead of your work, your documents and all your information being available across all your devices it’s your apps!

It’s simple: you download an app on your iPhone or your iPad and the app automatically appears on the other vice versa.

And this can also happen when you’re iPhone is on low power, so it’s best if you set this feature to manual so that when you do have enough juice you can download the app(s) then.

I’ll show you how to do that.

Step 1:  Jump into your Settings app and then tap iTunes & App Stores.

improve battery life on iPhone X

Step 2:  Now all you have to do is just turn off Apps.

improve battery life on iPhone X

Note

It’s also recommended that you turn off your Updates especially since if you have a lot of apps on your iPhone.

Also turning off Use Cellular Data will also help if you choose to keep your Music and Books & Audiobooks turned on, since your Wi-Fi will then use less power.

36.  Turning off the Spotlight.

Spotlight Search is basically the search feature that you swipe down for on your iPhone’s screen to get an inside look into all of your available apps on your iPhone.

And it works especially great if you are looking for a certain app that you can’t seem to find on your iPhone.

But this search feature is constantly working away in your iPhone’s background, indexing all the necessary data to make it so that you find your apps faster than ever before.

That it is great, but not so great if you’re on low battery life.

Thankfully Apple has provided a few tweaks and settings that you can adjust so that you can turn off some of all of Spotlight’s features and categories.

I’ll show you how you can turn this off.

Step 1:  Head over to your Settings app and then tap on General.

Step 2:  Next tap on Spotlight Search.

Step 3:  Now scroll down a little and you’ll find a lot of your Spotlight Search categories. You can turn off for some or turn off all depending on how much you use your Spotlight Search feature on your iPhone.

Note

Just remember you can always turn it back on once you have your battery life back to good. 🙂

37.  Gaming is Life. (But try to avoid when you can)

Playing Super Mario Run once in a while is exhilarating. (especially if you’re during a boring meeting or something).

But the problem with games on iOS is it pushes your iPhone’s A11 Bionic Chip to the max especially if you’re playing hard core games on your iPhone.

When you push your A11 chip to its limits then the more it’s going to need to keep running which hence means your battery life will decrease even faster.

So the next time when you’re on low battery life, stay away from the cute pigs and the heart thumping creepers in Minecraft and go through this guide to tweak your iPhone X to save as much of its battery life as you can.

“Told you not to put the chicken up a pedestal”

The same goes with if you…

38.  Love taking photos of everything? Great. (but not when it’s on low battery)

Taking photos is one of life greatest pleasures. Heck you don’t even need to travel, there’s literally cool little things that might catch your eye around you.

But if you’re gonna take pictures of everything like you’re some kind of TMZ, then you’re gonna be bummed to know you’re phone’s battery life wouldn’t last long.

So the next time you go off to capture one of those cool looking “shot on iPhone”-like pictures for your personal album, think twice.

improve battery life on iPhone X

If you’re on low battery life then make sure to go through this guide until you tweak your settings to further improve your battery life.

And the biggest tip of all …

39.  Go ahead and Fast Charge!

I know, I know, this is not really much of a tip but you gotta thank Apple for finally coming out with fast charging capabilities for your iPhone X.

Apple claims you can achieve 50% battery life in just 30 minutes, which is a nice addition.

So the next time you wake up and you realize you forgot to charge your iPhone at night, you can brush your teeth assured that by the time you have your bath and your breakfast, your iPhone will be fully charged in no time.

The only caveat is that Apple isn’t including the hardware that you would need to really get fast charging.

So to take advantage of fast charging on your iPhone X, you’ll need to buy both a Lightning-to-USB-C cable

and a USB-C Power Delivery-compatible charger

Don’t worry, I have linked to the official Apple Store on both of these products. 🙂

Share this monstrosity of a guide with your family and friends who have gotten their new iPhone Xs, so that they too can improve their battery life of their iPhones and make their lives a much easier place to be. 🙂
